Agent Insights

Hayhurst is a neighborhood with deep roots and real character. Annexed to the City of Portland in the 1950s, much of Hayhurst still carries a rural feel, with mature trees, homes on generous lots, and winding streets that feel unhurried and quiet. The neighborhood sits within 730 acres of Southwest Portland, bounded by Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway to the north and SW Vermont Street to the south, placing it conveniently close to downtown Portland, Willamette River, Japanese Garden and other attractions while feeling genuinely removed from the urban rush.

A sense of home. A peaceful retreat, yet still connected to all the best Portland has to offer.
— Kathy Quick, Principal Broker

The neighborhood's walkability extends into real green space. Pendleton Park, just west of Hayhurst Elementary School, features a playground, soccer fields, and a ballfield, and serves as the gathering place for summer Movies in the Park and the annual Neighborhood Night Out. The SW Trails urban network's Trail #7, the longest trail in the system, runs north-south through the neighborhood, and the developing Red Electric Trail will eventually link pedestrians and cyclists to the Fanno Creek Greenway. Neighborhood Greenways on SW Illinois Street, SW 50th Avenue, and SW Idaho Drive provide dedicated walking and biking routes defined by beautiful trees, especially striking in spring and fall.

What I Love About It

One of the defining advantages of life on this side of Southwest Portland is immediate proximity to Gabriel Park — a 90-acre public park and one of the finest recreational assets in the entire Portland metro area. The park features a baseball field, softball field, soccer field, basketball courts, tennis courts, a skatepark, volleyball courts, a dog off-leash area, a disabled-access play area, paved and unpaved trails, reservable picnic sites, and free WiFi. It is, in short, a neighborhood park operating at the scale and quality of a regional destination.

The Southwest Community Center, situated at the northwest corner of Gabriel Park, raises the bar further. Inside, residents have access to an indoor swimming pool, indoor basketball court, fitness room, gymnasium, rock climbing wall, weight room, kitchen, meeting rooms, and wireless internet. From early morning lap swims to weekend family climbing sessions, the Community Center meets Hayhurst residents at every stage of life with programming and facilities that would cost far more to replicate at a private gym.

For families with children, Hayhurst offers something that real estate listings often promise but rarely deliver: genuinely outstanding public schools. Hayhurst Elementary School consistently ranks among the top 10% of Oregon elementary schools, earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger in the 2023–2024 school year. Math proficiency at the school sits in the top 5% statewide, and reading proficiency is also in the top 5% — with 71% of students performing at or above proficiency levels, compared to a statewide average of 44%. The school holds a 9/10 GreatSchools rating, making it one of the highest-rated public elementary schools in the Portland metro area. For Southwest Portland families, having a school of this caliber as the neighborhood school is not something to take lightly.

My Top Three Reasons

Portland’s Hayhurst Neighborhood is a true urban oasis, and is perhaps one of the city’s yet to be discovered gems. I live in Hayhurst and I absolutely love it.

  1. Neighborhood Feel: Tree-lined, mature landscaping, classic homes on larger lots.

  2. Trails and Parks: Trail 7, Pendleton and Gabriel Parks and the Southwest Community Center.

  3. Exceptional Schools: Hayhurst Elementary School consistently ranks among the top 10% of Oregon elementary schools.

The community fabric of Hayhurst — the trails, the parks, the schools, the neighbors who gather for summer movies and neighborhood nights — and you have something that simply doesn't come to market often at any price. When a home like this appears, the buyers who move quickly are the ones who look back years later knowing they made the right call.

A Network of Cooperating Professionals

Real estate is one of those endeavors where success depends on a group of professionals working together to get a deal across the finish line. A broker’s fiduciary duty isn’t just to negotiate terms—it’s to deliver a successful, on-time closing with minimal risk to their client. That requires clear communication, problem-solving, and a working relationship with the other side. Brokers who treat every interaction as adversarial often create unnecessary friction that can derail financing, delay timelines, or cause deals to fall apart entirely. Skilled brokers understand that cooperation is not a concession—it’s a strategy. By maintaining a professional, collaborative dynamic with other brokers, they create the conditions needed to navigate inspections, appraisals, and inevitable surprises while still advocating firmly for their client’s interests. Cooperation is what produces results—and it’s the same collaborative approach that forms this network of cooperating professional who are here to serve your needs.

Meet Your Neighborhood Team

When Quick & Associates Real Estate approached Sally about partnering in the Pleasantville neighborhood, the fit was obvious: Sally has spent decades helping families not just buy and sell property, but understand what it actually means to connect to a neighborhood — the rhythms, the nuances, the things that don't show up in a listing. Neighborhood Living is built around the same notion: that real estate works best when it's collaborative, not adversarial, and when everyone at the table is working toward the same goal. With these shared values in mind, we're proud to introduce Sally to buyers and sellers in Pleasantville.
